It's Hard Out There For a....Student

June 19th, 2006 (08:11 pm)

About a week and a half ago I finally applied for a school. aionline.edu, to be exact.

You have to pay a $50 application fee, and then they e-mail you the application to fill out. I filled the thing out, minus one page about a Merit Award program, and faxed it in the next day, which was it's deadline to be in.

That night I went home and e-mailed the Assistant Director of Admissions asking what I was specifically supposed to put on one line for the merit award. I was unsure if they wanted information about a post secondary school, or if they wanted the information that applied to their school.

The next day I get an e-mail from her stating: You didn't fill out the Merit Award page.

I figured she didn't get my e-mail yet, and I waited a couple of days. No reply.

So then I e-mailed her from work. An hour or two go by. No reply still. So then I figured I was e-mailing the wrong person. Surely she would have answered by now if she was meant to answer it, right?

Wrong.

The next day I get an e-mail back from her and she's not impressed that I wrote that I haven't received a reply from her in the e-mail to someone else. She answered my questions wrong, and gave me the information to put in them, when all I wanted to know was if that was the information they wanted me to put there. I already knew it.

I started writing an e-mail back to her, thanking her for the reply, and that I didn't say that she didn't reply to get her in trouble or anything, and that I was unsure if I was supposed to be e-mailing the other people or her.

Then I skim her e-mail and catch this sentence at the bottom:

...I'M A LITTLE WORRIED THAT IF YOU CAN NOT EVEN UNDERSTAND THESE SIMPLE DIRECT FORMS THAT YOU WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY IN PROGRESSING IN YOUR CONTINUED EDUCATION.

And then I'm thinking: Are you fucking kidding me?

She also stated that she "promptly" replied to my questions. Last I checked, days going by is not prompt.

I deleted my friendly e-mail and re-wrote it with the following ending:

If you could also pass along your supervisor's phone number to me, I'd like to express my concern to them about your condescending attitude and apparent inability to send an e-mail reply to the proper address. It leaves me a little worried that you'll have difficulty furthering your career in the admissions field.

We end up going back and forth for hours like this.

In the end, I found out the following:

-She later admitted to never replying to the original questions e-mail. She claimed she called and left a voice mail for me to try and straighten out my questions.

-She later claims that the call was actually made after I sent the second e-mail.

-There was never any voicemail on my phone, or a record in it of her calling.

As the arguement continues, she starts blaming the whole ordeal on me. That I was e-mailing her from two different e-mails, and that's why I didn't get a reply, because I didn't give her the right e-mail....even though she never e-mailed either of them until I went asking others for answers.

I continued owning her with the facts, and then she e-mails me back stating that what I'm doing is "border-line harassment" and that if I continue, it's going on my permanent record, and she could get me fired for sending these "harassing" e-mails to her.

You can tell she's desperate to get the last word in, and that she knows she's wrong. Why else pull the harassment card?

I replied stating that I no longer wanted to attend the school, and for her to no longer contact me.

Of course, she replies. Says that my parents must be "so proud that I'm deciding not to further my education. And that my mail-entry job must be making me happy and providing me with plenty of money.." I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it.

It's a shame no one has informed her that not only do books exist outside of the school she works for, but so do other schools.

What a cunt, eh?

Anyhow, this past Friday was Emma's 3rd birthday party. But before we could go to that, Jodie had a job interview at my place of employment. I drove home, picked her up, and drove her back there. While she was being interviewed, I sat in the lobby and read Newsweek, and Ebony. Ebony had an article that involved Common. I never knew he won a Grammy before I read the article.

She comes out and states that they have a job for her that pays more than mine. Agag!

We leave there and go pick up Greg and the kids, and go to Milwaukee. We dropped the kids and Jodie off, and then Greg and I went to the store to pick up last minute presents.

I got her the Dora Big Sister doll. For pictures of that stuff, you can go look at Jodie's journal. I'm too lazy to hotlink her pictures and such.

Saturday was Jen and Adam's wedding. We got there about 15 minutes early and I wasn't really sure what was going on. Dane, Jodie, and myself all sat down in a pew towards the back. I didn't realize how agonizing religious weddings are. Jesus H. Oh, there was art of him all over the place, so I spent most of the wedding staring at all that. Stained glassed windows rule also, btw.

Man, this update sucks. Normally when I update, I try to write everything proper, and so it has some sort of flow to it, but not this one.

So yeah, that's over and I find out that the reception doesn't start for two hours. I don't know if all weddings are like that, but two hours seemed like too long.

We went to the place it was at, and started doing shots of Jack right away. Oh noes, another update that involves drinking.

The whole set up was beautiful. Pictures from it are also at Jodie's journal.

We drank. We were merry. This update sucks. I apologize.

Overheard conversations in the bathroom....

May 26th, 2006 (09:52 pm)

Both from the same guy, two different days.

"I've gotta go to the urologist. You know what they do there? They shove a rod in your.....dick."

"The next project is, trying to get a hummingbird to weigh 10 pounds after you build the feeder. End up with a bowling ball flying through the air. Maybe I'll put steroids in it's feed...."

The second one sounds like a part of Project Mayhem.

Jodie got her tattoo finished today. Her tattoo artist does the best work I've ever seen, so I talked with him a bit. I asked if he went to art school, and he said yes, and that he went to MATC. Then he started showing me old issues of Juxtapoz that he has and other magazines that the same people released in the past. Whenever I get around to getting a tattoo, he shall be the one I go to. And the only one I go to.

boingboing.net is probably the best news source around these days. They cover everything from Lori Earley selling prints, to the EFF winning lawsuits against Apple. Go there.

That's about all.
